Meet the Artist: Jose Angel Hernandez

Jose's creative journey began at the close of the 20th century, during a moment of reflection as the world prepared for the arrival of Y2K. After years of working as an instructor in Corporate America—helping individuals and organizations improve performance—he recognized an unfulfilled personal calling. Memories of childhood drawing sessions, particularly sketching a father quietly watching television, resurfaced and ignited a long-dormant creative instinct. This marked the beginning of a lifelong exploration of visual storytelling through words and color.

Over the next two decades, Jose’s path evolved through experimentation and discovery. In 2014, a clear artistic purpose emerged: to create work that is meaningful, interactive, playful, and designed to spark conversation. This shift was defined by the incorporation of found, recycled, and curated objects into two-dimensional surfaces, combined with bold, vibrant color palettes.

The integration of three-dimensional elements expanded the artist’s practice to include abstract portraits, zoomorphic animals, and conceptual works. These materials add depth and narrative, enriching each piece and inviting viewers to engage more deeply with the work. Collectors often connect with the interplay between composition, texture, color, and symbolic objects embedded within each piece.

Through 3D mixed-media art, Jose continues to honor the creative awakening that began in 1999—an inner calling that remains central to their practice and will guide their work for years to come.
